First Friday Music Available in Our Store

Inspired by how great Brass Menazeri was at Great American Music Hall last night and how good their new album is we decided to add the albums of the musicians who have performed at our First Friday events to our online store.

We have the amazing Holcombe Waller's "Troubled Times" and Brass Menazeri's first album "Brazen" (their just released album "Vranjski San" coming soon) for sale through iTunes or on CD Baby.

A Little Poetry for Thursday Morning

The Summer Day

by Mary Oliver

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

San Francisco Magazine Calls Oakland the "Bay Area's Next Scene"

The cover story from this month's issue of San Francisco Magazine is all about the new cool in Oakland:

"Street by street, the city is coming into its urban own -- one nightclub, art gallery, renovated building, shop, restaurant, and condo at a time. As would-be San Francisco homeowners and businesses chafe at the cost of living and operating there, Oakland finds itself on a relentless drive toward a modern-day revitalization akin to what happened south of Market in the '90s, or the incursion of youthful hipness Brooklyn has seen in the past decade."
