Cortt Dunlap, Awaken Café’s co-founder, says that Mr. Neuhausel and Dr. Basha Neuhausel experience provides a key aspect for the Awaken Café’s success: “Many people set out to run great, sustainable businesses where people love to work,” explains Dunlap. “But we know that in the day-to-day shuffle of running a business, ideals can get lost in the pressure. Nick and Laura bring to the Awaken Café the experience to build a profitable business with a healthy, creative and joyful culture.” Co-founder, Kari Christensen, says, “A café, above all else, has to be fun for the customers. That begins when you walk in the door – it’s an atmosphere that can’t be faked. The employees and owners of the Awaken Café are the ones who will create that feeling – or not. Laura and Nick are internationally known for teaching employees and managers how to co-create a joyful, dynamic and successful company culture. I am thrilled to have them as part of the management team of the Awaken Café. ” Mr. and Mrs. Neuhausel are long time Oakland residents who decided to invest in the Awaken Café due in part to their personal connection to the values and mission of the Awaken Café. Laura Basha Neuhausel explained, “It feels great to invest in Oakland. We believe in the vision and business model of the Awaken Café. The time is right to invest in downtown Oakland’s revitalization. Cortt and Kari have drive, enthusiasm, focus, and a timely concept. They are building a business that is healthy for the environment, for their employees, and for the community. Nick and I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in this project, not only for the profit potential but for the difference it is set to make in Oakland.” Laura Basha Neuhausel, Ph.D. is a certified trainer and holds a doctorate in Clinical and Organizational Psychology. She has been a consultant, educator, and personal coach for thousands of clients.
