 Subject: Back From Burning Man Dear Awaken Cafe Community, We are back from Burning Man, dusty and inspired by the community and the art. Being on the Playa reminded us of how much the Awaken Cafe is a child of Burning Man. It's a root of the Awaken Cafe's collaborative style, focus on community, DIY creativity, and slightly crazy willingness to take on a huge project. We love the values of the Burning Man community and see the Cafe as a home for those values in downtown Oakland.
We are so close to opening! Our projected grand opening for the Phase One Coffee Cart is November 30. We expect to have the full Awaken Cafe open in the first quarter of 2008. Construction on our new storefront is nearing completion. The picture on the right shows the frame of our new facade. Tile and windows will be installed next week. The picture below is the original Golden Bull facade. Interior construction for Phase One begins in October. We are looking for skilled carpenters to build our Coffee Cart from the redwood lumber we salvaged from the Golden Bull. If you can recommend anyone, please contact us. We are listed on YELP and Sustainlane and have already been getting positive reviews before we open. People are excited by the possibilities of the Awaken Cafe.
