Subject: [Awaken Café] What's New at the Awaken Café The opening of the Awaken Café is coming soon! Over the past year and a half, the Awaken Café team has been diligently working to bring this exciting new cafe into existence. During that time, we have received input and support from many of you, which has helped to shape the Awaken Café. We have made huge strides towards opening the doors in downtown Oakland, including: • Forming the Awaken Café LLC and funding it with $100,000 in start-up capital. • Completing our Business Plan. The plan includes extensive research, cost analysis, financial projections, and a detailed marketing, operations, and financial strategy. We are very proud of this document. It will serve as a powerful and comprehensive road map for the success of the Awaken Café. • Submitting an offer on the perfect location for the Awaken Café in downtown Oakland. It’s in the exact neighborhood we are targeting (more on this as soon as we reach an agreement!). • Hiring a dynamic business team to build the Awaken Café. All of our team members have a combination of excellent professional skills and strong community values important to the Awaken Café. The team includes:
• Launching (today!) the exciting “Friends of the Awaken Café” Program to raise $125,000 dollars through the pre-sale of Awaken Café Gift Cards: • Launching the Awaken Café website and a new mailing list system. • Designing the Awaken Café logo. • Identifying local government incentives, grant and loan programs for the Awaken Café. • Completing initial architectural designs for the Awaken Café. • Beginning the application process for a Small Business Administration loan.
